During this time of the year visitors can see many carp
streamers. The flying streamers were originally a custom to honor boys during
"Boy's Day," but the day was changed to "Kodomo no Hi" (Children's Day). Many
communities hold festivals on this day with live music and other activities for
children.

Enjoy
this lively festival of traditional boat races that dates back to the Ryukyu
Kingdom era. The races were originally brought to Okinawa from China, and were
held to bring good fortune and a safe return to fishermen. Today, many teams

spectators.

If you ever get a bit tired of eating Okinawa soba, try Hachiren for some delicious "ramen" and "tsukemen." Ordering is simple as there is a machine at the entrance where you purchase a ticket for your order. I suggest the "Rahjanmen," which is filled with flavor and will satisfy those who are looking for something on the spicy side. You can also add extra toppings such as "chahshuu" (flavored pork), seaweed, and egg.
Hachiren is located along Highway 58 in Yomitan, on the left just before the Yomitan Kyoudou Hanbai Senta (Pottery and Craft Center) when heading North.
